Ricki Mountain Abstract Artist Biography

ARTIST STATEMENT

Painting is for me the process of discovering what I want to see. I have always been attracted to the unknown rather than the known. For this reason abstraction is a natural and intuitive choice.

I am constantly mixing and matching to find a balance between tension and harmony, spontaneity and control, empty space and active space, depth and surface.

A painting is complete when it no longer demands anything from me.

As a painter I understand that duplicating work to represent a style has some merit. However, my signature style is the process itself. I always seem to take each painting to the next level using what I learned from the previous session. I'll sometimes start by copying the idea, and then I allow it to become its own entity."

As an artist to attain success, I believe it is thru failure. This truly makes me try new and different methods. My style allows me to be very creative; this is the most exciting part, to know that I will always be able to create something new.

"Always paint freely, and thrive on rejection."

Ricki Mountain is an independent artist living in Northern California. She has emerged as one of West Coast's leading abstract expressionist painters...

She works with several different media to create colorful abstract compositions on paper and canvas. Many of her paintings are based on geometric shapes that intertwine and overlap one another. Surface texture adds visual interest and dimension to the work in addition to painted collage elements, bits of handmade paper, steel mesh, and pencil. Her art invokes an emotional response through loose patterns to create visual accents within her color fields, all which are consistent with her signature style...

Stepping outside the standard artist-gallery business model, Ricki Mountain has an eclectic style, and has gained a reputation as a prolific creative resource.

Mountain is regularly commissioned to create custom paintings, prints, and interior accents for retail and commercial clients.

Original artwork, limited edition fine art giclee, contemporary home decor, site-specific art commissions, wholesale art prints-- Ricki Mountain Studios encompasses it all !

Her artwork has been shown nationally and is in Private and corporate collections in both the United States and Europe.
